Tintern Abbey - pierwsza fundacja Cystersów w Walii / Tintern Abbey - the first Cistercian foundation in Wales

Opactwo cystersów w Tintern to jedna z największych klasztornych ruin Walii.

Opactwo Tintern leży w pięknej dolinie Wye, na granicy Anglii i Walii.  

Lord Chepstow, Walter de Clare wybudował opactwo Tintern w 1131 roku. 

Była to druga fundacja zakonu Cystersów w Brytanii i pierwsza w Walii.  

W XIII i XIV wieku opactwo zostało bardzo rozbudowane.

Architektura tego opactwa była bardzo prosta, bez dużych wież, które były zakazane przez rząd zakonu Cystersów.

 

Po rozwiązaniu klasztorów w XVI wieku opactwo zamieniło sie w ruinę; aktualnie znaczna część zrujnowanych budynków klasztornych jest dobrze zachowana.

I to co pozostalo z dawnej świetnośći jest miejscem bardzo pięknym, malowniczym i romantycznym, miejscem które od zawsze inspirowało poetów i malarzy.

 The Tintern Abbey lies in the beautiful Wye Valley, on the border between England and Wales.  

Lord Chepstow, Walter de Clare built the Tintern Abbey in 1131. It was the second Cistercian foundation in Britain and the first in Wales. In the 13th and 14th centuries the abbey was very extensive. 

The architecture of this abbey was very simple, without the large towers that were forbidden by the rule of the Cistercian order.

After the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, the abbey turned into a ruin; currently a significant part the ruined monastery buildings are well preserved. 

And what remained of the former glory is a very beautiful, picturesque and romantic place, a place that has always inspired poets and painters.
