Opactwo Shap - zostało założone pod koniec XII wieku w odosobnionej i pięknej dolinie rzeki Lowther.
Opactwo założył zakon Norbertanów, zwanych również białymi kanonikami,
ze względu na ich charakterystyczne białe wełniane sukmany.
Opactwo to nie było nigdy dużą społecznością, ale było bogate i posiadało ziemie w całej okolicy.
Opactwo Shap przetrwało początkową fazę rozpadu klasztorów w 1536 roku,
ale zostało zamknięte w 1540 roku. Większość budynków opactwa została wyburzona, jednak pozostałości wieży nadal są imponujące, a zarys planu budynku jest wyraźnie widoczny.
Kamień został zabrany pod koniec XVII wieku, aby zbudować Shap Market Hall. Znaczna część rzeźbionej kamieniarki została również usunięta i wykorzystana w budynku zamku Lowther.
Shap Abbey - was founded at the end of the 12th century in an isolated and beautiful valley of the Lowther River. The abbey was founded by the Norbertine Order, also known as white canons, because of their characteristic white woolen habits. This abbey never was a large community, but it was rich one and had many lands throughout the area. The Shap Abbey survived the initial phase of The Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536, but was closed in 1540.
Most of the abbey's buildings have been demolished, but the remains of the tower are still impressive, and the outline of the building plan is clearly visible. The stone was taken at the end of the 17th century to build the Shap Market Hall. Much of the carved stonework was also removed and used in the building of the Lowther castle.

odbyć w Anglii następnego dnia, 19 maja - Królewski Ślub. Hotel miał zamiar pokazać relację z wesela, oferując również przekąski i napoje z baru przez cały dzień.
Visit to the Shap abbey ended our day and after returning to the hotel, each of us found in own room information about an important event that was going to take place the following day May 19 - Royal Wedding. The hotel was going to show the coverage of the wedding offering also some refreshments from the bar all day.
